Network Architect III

Department: Systems Integration

General Summary

Plans, develops, and maintains client network operations including routers, firewalls, switches/hubs, access equipment, servers and company applications. Gives advice and support to local client support staff and assists with correcting local network problems. Provides systems support to ensure integrity of client systems and software. Facilitates system installations, updates and upgrades. Troubleshoots system related problems and issues and works with vendors to resolve technical issues. Assist clients with developing and coordinates network policies, procedures, and standards.

Reviews current network traffic, usage, equipment and capacity to assess future network requirements. Evaluates hardware and software, including peripheral, output, and telecommunications equipment. Designs, updates, and monitors network systems and equipment. Researches products, services, and pricing, and provides information to client for decision. Serves as a technical resource to clients regarding network system requirements. Makes recommendations regarding new system technologies and upgrades.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Plans, develops and maintains all network operations including all routers, firewalls, switches/hubs, access and servers.

  • Provides technical support to staff members and assists with correcting client network problems.

  • Maintains current industry knowledge, evaluates products for the purpose of acquisitions to meet the needs of the client.

  • Designs, updates, and monitors data networking systems and equipment.

  • Reviews network traffic, usage and capacity to assess future network requirements.

  • Makes recommendations to clients regarding new system technologies and upgrades.

  • Maintains current industry knowledge of network design and engineering industry standards.

  • Evaluates hardware and software products including peripheral, output and telecommunications equipment, and makes recommendations for purchase.

  • Facilitates operating and software system installation, updates and upgrades. Researches system needs and specifications to determine needed system updates and upgrades.

  • Troubleshoots system related problems and issues and works with vendors to resolve technical issues.

  • Assesses customer network and/or Voice/Video/Internet system needs. Designs system solutions that meet customer needs utilizing vendor products and services.

  • May train end-users as needed.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management. *

  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer operating systems, hardware and peripheral equipment.

  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of company products and services.

  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN technology, software, hardware and servers.

  • Knowledge of Internet protocols such as TCP/IP and hardware devices such as cable modems, fiber-to-the-home and/or DSL.

  • Knowledge of telecommunications construction and engineering practices and principles.

  • Skill in operating various office equipment such as personal computer, various software programs and telephone systems.

  • Skill in problem solving and resolution.

  • Skill in presenting technical concepts to clients and potential clients.

  • Skill in reading and interpreting technical documents and information.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Ability to communicate with customers, employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering or equivalent experience plus five to seven years of related experience.
